BFL Rounds 3 & 4 weekend recap

September 19, 2024

The second weekend of the Boys U13 football league was concluded on Sunday 15th September. 18 matches out of 90 are now completed and the league table is beginning to take shape, and it’s now clear who are the front runners. There is still plenty of matches left so a lot can still change… but Gaher is definitely showing they are the favourites, with Huskies, Sagbayan and Tubigon close behind.

The weekend certainly was a challenging weekend with the stormy weather, where players safety came first. We postponed Saturday morning’s matches due to the uncertainty, but due to a fortunate improvement in the weather the clubs reacted quickly and the afternoon games continued. The weather continued to improve throughout the weekend and Sunday proved perfect conditions for football. On Sunday, we caught up with a canceled game, and so only one match is still to play: Huskies v Panglao Dolphins which will take place in a few weeks.

Opening Day Recap: U13 Bohol Football League

The first match of the day was Alicia FC v Gaher FC with Gaher winning 4-0. Star player Marjay Louiz Casere winning man of the match. Sagbayan FC had a convincing win of 4-0 against Tagbilaran Tigers FC, which showed that they are challengers for the title. On Sunday Sierra Bullones started the morning with a strong 5-2 win over Tagbilaran Tigers. It was Seirra Bullones’ first win and moved them off the bottom of the table. Huskies had a convincing 8-0 win over Clarin, and displayed some superb goal scoring power and ability, and with a game in hand could top the table when they complete their next match. The match of the weekend was Gaher v Tubigon, in which both sides were vying to end the weekend top of the table. It was a battle from the start with Tubigon producing excellent goal keeping in the first half, but Gaher’s stamina showed in second half and won the game 3-0. Talibon had a convincing 5-1 win over Panglao Dolphins. But Panglao Dolphins displayed great character at being delighted with their first goal of the tournament! Clarin v Sierra Bullones proved to be a match of the weekend between two teams that struggled in the opening weekend games in Tagbilaran. Clarin won 2-1, but both teams had greatly improved and Clarin won their first match and moved them off the bottom of the table. The final match of the weekend was Sagbayan v Alicia, a tense battle, which ended 2-1 to Sagbayan. All in all some excellent football, and it was clear that the quality of play had greatly improved since the first league match in August.

As the league progresses we’re expecting the standard to improve, and between all these players, Bohol is going to have a formidable U13 Boys team that will be hard for other teams in the Philippines to beat!
